Malta Public Transport Expands Fleet with 25 New Buses to Enhance Services

Malta Public Transport (MPT) has announced the addition of 25 new buses to its fleet, raising the total number of scheduled public transport vehicles to 510. This expansion is part of MPT's ongoing efforts to improve public transportation services across Malta by increasing capacity, enhancing passenger comfort, and offering a more reliable experience for commuters.

The new buses are specifically designed for routes with limited stops, such as those connecting the Malta International Airport and the Ċirkewwa Ferry terminal. These routes will synchronize with the Gozo ferry schedule, ensuring smooth transfers for passengers traveling between the islands. MPT also hinted that further improvements to the route network, including enhancements and new connections, will be announced in the near future.

Each of the 25 new buses is designed with passenger comfort in mind, offering increased seating capacity and limited standing space. Accessibility is a priority, with features such as two doors for efficient boarding and alighting, and full wheelchair access. To enhance convenience, the buses come equipped with free Wi-Fi, USB charging points, and dedicated storage for small hand luggage, along with a luggage compartment for larger items. Powered by Euro VI engines, these vehicles reflect the latest in clean diesel technology, aligning with MPT's sustainability goals.

Felipe Cosmen, Chairman of Malta Public Transport, emphasized the company's commitment to improving the customer experience. "This investment demonstrates our dedication to providing a more comfortable and efficient service. Over the past year, we have added 85 buses to our fleet, including 30 new electric buses," he said, referencing the company’s broader efforts to modernize its fleet.

MPT's recent investments mark a significant push to elevate the quality of bus services in Malta. Earlier this year, the company introduced 30 new buses, and last year, they launched another 30 electric buses, reflecting a clear commitment to sustainable growth. With these continuous enhancements, MPT aims to ensure a reliable, accessible, and environmentally conscious public transport system for all passengers.
